The PHILIPPINES . . .
and We Are Taking the Whole Family
After millions of applications, and interviews Devin was able to make a contact with a huge International Law Firm called Baker McKensie. His mission buddy worked for their Philippino office last summer and reccomended Devin, and since Devin served his mission in the Phillipines and speaks Tagalog they were thrilled to have him.
We will be living just outside of Manilla for 8 weeks, May 25-July 25. We bought our tickets are are getting very excited for our international opportunity. We however will not be working there permanently since its a philippino law that you can't practice law if you are not a citizen there is no chance we will move there permanently. We hope to be connected to other Baker McKensies in the US primarily in California, or the West. Or any other law firm that thinks Baker McKensie is a cool firm and wants to interview with us, so we will be back to applying to more jobs in August.
Oh and if you have any tips on taking kids on a 16 hour flight or adjusting quickly to a 12 hour time difference let us know!

Congratulations! That is so awesome. My brother served his mission in the Phillipines (Bacolod), so we love that country! What an aweswome opportunity!
Cool!! I'm sad you won't be in Utah so we can all get together, but considering how much I'd love to go live in Italy for a few months, I guess I'll be understanding. Tiff is definitely the person to ask about flights with children. I believe some Benadryl may have been used. Hope things are well.
How exciting! Congrats on landing such a great opportunity! I'm sure Miguel will be more than excited to hear this news. As far as long flights go, be wary of Benedryl - it can actually backfire and make your kid MORE hyper, so try it at home first! It didn't really help Ella at all - it's like it wasn't even in her system.
My tip would be to head to the dollar store and buy all sorts of random, little toys. Then pull out a new toy/snack every 30 minutes (or longer or shorter, depending on the attention span). And for our road trips that have been that long, our portable DVD player has been a LIFESAVER. Good luck with the trip - can't wait to hear more details!
That is SO COOL!!! Congratulations! As for a long plane flight--something that plays movies, books, stickers, a new toy and LOTS of food. Wow, what a neat opportunity! I can't wait to see your blog posts!!!
You should email Wendy Pendergrass, they took Lucy to South Korea!!
Wow! Congratulations on landing such a great internship Devin! Best of luck to both of you as you live abroad for two months with small children. What an experience, try to soak it all in. We look forward to seeing you when you return to Utah.
What a fun summer adventure! Sad that we probably wont see you before we move, but hopefully we'll see you sometime in the near future!
Naomi and Devin what a wonderful opportunity for you. Hope all goes well. As far as travel with the little ones make sure you have snacks for Spencer and bottle for Marianne. Kids have a tendency to have problem with their ears popping so having something to chew or suck on helps a bunch. And yes toys that don't make too much noise. Hopefully you will have a movie or music on the plane so take your headphones to plug in otherwise the airlines charge a couple of buck each. Have fun! Patty
congrats, what a fun opportunity! i had no idea your husband served in the Philippines, so did mine. my hubby just got back from Boracay for business, he too speaks tagalog. good luck. haven't ventured taking the kiddos on that long of a flight...they should have free movies playing the whole time though...
